Annual Reunion Gallery now online

As my final act as Webmaster, I am pleased to present a gallery of photos taken at our Annual Reunion Dinner and Prize Presentation. All those attending had a wonderful evening made even more special by the presence of Phil and Pat Liggett. Phil entertained us with tales from his second career as a cycling journalist and commentator and then Phil and Pat took over one of the most animated presentation sessions I have ever witnessed. I hope my pictures capture some of the fun and good humour of the event. My successor as Webmaster, Martin Badham, needs no introduction to our members and I commend him to all our readers and wish him well when he finishes his ride back from the Dinner later this week.

Geoff Booker hungriest in 'Appetizer'

Geoff Booker won the Annual Reunion 'Appetizer' by a slim 10 second margin from Steve Avery in 18:46 on a course shortened to 6.7 miles by roadworks. Roger Alma was in clear third with 22:28 and wife Myra fastest lady in 30:56. The tandem trike event sported two mixed pairs of Keenes and Pursers with Dave Keene piloting Alison Purser to a super fast 16:35 and Martin Purser piloting Tyler Keene to a very respectable 21:33. The trio of tandem trikes was completed by Roger Akers ably stoked by Emma Kirby with 25:11. The full result is on the 2008 Results page.

Dave Keene wins Lincs Weekend Double

Dave Keene made the long trip up from Bristol to record a double win in the Lincolnshire Wheelers Tricycle Weekend. He won the Saturday '10' in 24:57 with Nick Wood second in 26:51 and Peter Hopkins third in 29:25. He won the Sunday '25' in 1:2:57 with Peter Hopkins second in 1:15:33 and Stephen Brown third in 1:18:15. Alison Purser and Clare Ella were fastest tandem trike in both events with 26:06 and 1:07:42. Full details are on the 2008 Results page.

Organiser John Nicholson reports that the weather on Saturday was fine with a cool southerly wind which made the second leg of the triangle hard work but gave no assistance on the way back! Sunday was a glorious day, hardly any wind and shirt sleeve order for the Marshals. Numbers slightly down but a very enjoyable weekend!” There were Saturday evening gatherings in Dunston for campers, and Auburn. Sunday lunch was at Saxilby.

Gordon Brennan

We are sorry to report that Gordon Brennan, long time member of the North Western Region died on Thursday 9th October after a long illness. He had been in a nursing home for some time. Gordon broke a number of records on his tricycle, which he was riding until only a few years ago. To many he was 'Mr Lancaster Cycling Club' and after being President for 25 years he was made their Honorary Life President.

His funeral will take place next Thursday (16th) at 10.00 am at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Morecambe.

Cycling Weekly - 2nd October 2008

For those curious about the tricyclists featured on the Doc Hutch pages last week, they were from the Warwick Criterium 2006. The rider whose head had been transplanted for Ken Livingstone's is Dave Overton, with Jeff Jones in his entirety glued to his axle. They finished in the same order.

Jim Pitt points out the tricyclist silhouetted in the Blenhiem mists. He believes, and I tend to agree, that it is George Jackson. A fine issue for the barrows!

MacsTATT - Oct 12 2008 - Change of Venue

Please note that Mac Timmis' TATT has experienced a change of venue to the 'Crown Inn' in the centre of Albrighton.
More details on Activities page under October 12th.

Dadswell and Mace break Lands End to London & 12 hour record!

Ralph Dadswell, Antelope RT and Paul Mace, High Wycombe rode Land's End to London on Wednesday( yesterday) on the tandem-tricycle. Progress reports below:-

As at 8.30 am they were on the Bodmin By-pass.
At 11:20 am reported to be at 97.5 miles in 4 hours 17 mins, still on schedule
At 2.25 pm 165 miles covered and about 9 minutes down on schedule
At 4.10 pm about 203 miles covered approx 13 mins down on schedule, place to place looking good, they were not quite so confident about the 12 hour record.
At 6.10 pm approx 246 miles covered, heading towards Hook, may have gained back a few minutes since last update
At 7.14 pm it seems they may have just missed out on the 12 hour record after many hold-ups in Camberley but still looking good for the place to place though.
At 8.25pm they have about 4 miles to go.

"We managed to get back level with schedule by the time we left the A303. Although we lost a few minutes after that, we will claim 262.5m in 12 hours. We then did the Lights and Extra Clothes thing, and rolled in to HPC after 13.37.35. So a few minutes down on what I'd guessed we might do, but comfortably the right side of the old record.
More tomorrow, probably. but not now."
Ralph

Congratulations to Ralph and Paul.

The full details and points for all qualifiers are on the League page.

NE 'Jack Riley' 25 mile TT

In the NE '25' for the 'Jack Riley' Handicap Trophy run on the 28th September 2008 on a fair morning with light NW breeze, Alison Purser improved over 3½ mins to take the Jack Riley Trophy awarded on handicap times. Keith Buck returned to tricycle racing after a long lay off with back problems to take 2nd H/cap with a personal best. Carl Saint was well inside the hour to win the scratch race from Dave Keene. Thanks to Martin Purser for the photos in the Activities Gallery. The full result is on the 2008 Results page.

Carl Saint breaks '25' Comp Record

Carl Saint, Yorkshire Road Club, broke the 25 mile Solo Tricycle Competition Record with a time of 54:48 on Saturday 20th September riding in the Stone Wheelers event.

Carl finished in 20th place overall, in a field of 90 riders, all the rest on bicycles.

Carl's average speed works out at 27.372 mph.

The course was a broadly out-and-back one on the busy A50 dual-carriageway trunk road near Stoke-on-Trent in the English Midlands. The previous record was set in 1996 by Steve Brown of the East Bradford CC (not to be confused with his namesake in the Scunthorpe RC) in a time of 55:00.
