South West 25 -1st March 2009

Report lifted from the 3wielweb's site, I do hope André doesn't mind.

It was time-trial world champion Dave Keene who took the first win of the tricycling season in the Tricycle Association, South Western Region twenty-five miles (40km) race on March 1st, St David's day. In second place John Thompson performed well on his new stainless steel Trykit tricycle, made by Geoff Booker, but his time of 1.09.52 was no match for Keene's 1.04.51 (exactly 37 km/hour), a time which beat most of the riders in the cycle race which followed the tricycle event.

The morning was dry but quite cold until the sun broke through later. Andrew Nye travelled from Kent in search of points for the Tricyclists' League, and went home reasonably satisfied with third place, recording 1.21.55.

Wondering how Dave Keene and John Thompson went so fast on a challenging course, the remaining riders, Roger Alma 1.28.07, Ian Matthews, 1.29.13, and Malcolm Timmis, 1.35.02, went home thinking they should train a little harder before their next race.
