North Western

Covering North Western England comprising the counties of Cheshire, Cumbria, Lancashire, Greater Manchester, Merseyside, North Staffordshire, North West Yorkshire, North Wales, Isle of Man, Scotland and Ireland.

The North West is undoubtedly the largest of the regions, in area and membership and was in fact the first region to be formed, this is one of the reasons why members of this region refer to themselves as "the premier region".

The racing calendar comprises of five Time Trials in total over distances of 10, 25 and 50 miles.  The opening ‘25' is in March usually in the Garstang area. 

In May the North West hosts the Bruce Kingsford Memorial 50 miles championship north of Shrewsbury with camping facilities over the whole of the bank holiday weekend. The Albert Crimes Memorial 25 miles event is held in July on a Cheshire or Staffordshire course. August sees the promotion of the ‘Keswick’ ‘10' on the Saturday. The closing ‘25’ in September is again in the Garstang area. All of the Sunday events include the traditional post race lunch in a nearby hostelry.

Other social gatherings include monthly lunchtimes held in different parts of the region during the winter months, plus additional weekend functions both summer and winter including the long standing ‘England v Scotland’ weekend in early March started by the late Ed Green, National President from 1951 to 1979 and member of the North Western Region.

The annual ‘Closer’ (lunch and prize presentation) is a very popular event always held in November on Remembrance Sunday in the Preston area. This event is known as the ‘closer’ as in earlier days, when no tricycling took place during the winter months, it was the closing run of the season.
