North Eastern

Covering Northumberland, County Durham, Yorkshire, Lincolnshire, and Nottinghamshire.

Originally formed in March 1946 the then “North Midlands Region” was comprised mainly of riders from South Yorkshire. Later, strong contingents from Nottingham, York, Tyne and Wear, and, more recently, North Lincolnshire, have increased the membership and geographical jurisdiction.

The Region has a widespread and varied calendar of activities (see below). The CTC York Cycle Show and Rally are held in June. TA Members from all over the country attend, and the ‘Bernard Wood’ 25-mile time trial is held nearby, on the V134, south of Boroughbridge. In early May the ‘Mike Dixie’ 10-mile time trials are held on the V718, west of Hull. The racing programme concludes with the ‘Jack Riley’ 25-mile time trial held on the V235 on the last Sunday in September, prior to the Regional AGM.

The region’s Annual Luncheon is held at the end of January at ‘The George’ at Easingwold. Here the region’s members and guests are able to enjoy reflecting on the past years activities and toast the Trophy and Medal winners in a convivial atmosphere.

60 years ago! The first run of 1948 was from Bawtry to Brigg with lunch at ‘The Brocklesby Ox’ on 11th January, starting at 10 a.m. That would be a round trip of about 100 miles from Rotherham.
