Criterium Reports 2010

Following the cancellation of the Ilton criterium due to lack of entries, the 2010 criterium league got under way with a weekend of Grass Track racing in the Eastern Counties.
Unfortunately Geoff Booker was not able to join us due to doctor's advice, so the field was reduced to 4 tricycles.
The Plomesgate CC and burghers of Bredfield made us very welcome, an addition to last year was sharing the village green with Bredfield Bowls Club who were hosting a village féte with barbecue, ice cream tricycle and all the traditional stalls. This increased the audience and I hope they were entertained by the racing.
Trike racing started with a 1 lap time trial won by Ian Matthews from Martin Badham, Ferg Muir and Greta Spiers, followed a little later in the programme by the 2 lap handicap where Martin took advantage of his allowance to win. Martin won the 3 lap scratch, then Ian won the the Devil. Our final event was a 1 lap Scratch with Greta allowed a handicap. She made full use of this to finish first in front of Ian, Martin and Ferg.
As last year, we camped on the corner of the field and trundled over to Hasketon for our evening meal.
The next morning, we struck camp and moved down the A12 to Colchester for the Rovers CC grass track. The previous days good weather continued with the temperature turned up a notch, and a stiff breeze blowing. The trike involvement once again started with a time trial, to gauge our reletive performance, Ian again taking the first spot from Martin, Ferg and Greta. In the handicap, Martin scraped home first from Feg Muir with Ian and Greta behind. By the third event, the heat had got to Greta and she felt unable to continue. So three of us contested the 3 laps scratch, Martin winning from Ian and Ian. The final trike event was a 2km scratch, and Martin made use of his long distance training to take that on too.
As both events were run as omniums Ian and Martin came away with honours even.
